Annie Mathers is America's sweetheart and heir to a country music legacy full of all the things her Gran warned her about. Superstar Clay Coolidge is most definitely going to end up one of those things.
But unfortunately for Clay, if he can't convince Annie to join his summer tour, his music label is going to drop him. That's what happens when your bad boy image turns into bad boy reality. Annie has been avoiding the spotlight after her parents' tragic death, except on her skyrocketing YouTube channel. Clay's label wants to land Annie, and Clay has to make it happen.
Swayed by Clay's undeniable charm and good looks, Annie and her band agree to join the tour. From the start fans want them to be more than just tour mates, and Annie and Clay can't help but wonder if the fans are right. But if there's one part of fame Annie wants nothing to do with, it's a high-profile relationship. She had a front row seat to her parents' volatile marriage and isn't interested in repeating history. If only she could convince her heart that Clay, with his painful past and head over heels inducing tenor, isn't worth the risk.
Erin Hahn's thrilling debut, You'd Be Mine, asks: can the right song and the perfect summer on the road make two broken hearts whole?

This satisfying romance about two teens in country music offers a glamorous backdrop of music and stardom. After a bar fight and some embarrassing publicity in Nashville, 18-year-old heartthrob Clay Coolidge needs to win his way back into his record label’s good graces by persuading 18-year-old Annie Mathers, a YouTube sensation and daughter of country music royalty, to join him on tour. Alternating between Clay and Annie’s first-person accounts, the chapters chronicle the teens’ shared love of music, initial spats, mounting attraction, and struggles with personal demons as they tour the country. While Annie confronts the memory of finding her famous musician parents dead after a double suicide, Clay (whose real name is Jefferson, a name only Annie earns the right to call him) drinks in order to forget his deceased brother. A magazine feature casts the stars as Johnny Cash and June Carter, and their story mimics that one—Clay crashes from fame just as Annie’s career begins to ascend. Though the plot follows familiar and somewhat predictable lines, the talented duo proves winning as Hahn depicts the highs and lows of life on the road. Fans of country music and romance will find much to cheer for in this bighearted debut. Ages 14–up. Agent: Kate McKean, Howard Morhaim Literary.

Narrators Tristan Morris and Emily Lawrence are a dynamic pair. When country music star Clay Coolidge and Annie Mathers, the daughter of country music royalty, hit the open road for a summer tour, sparks fly. Lawrence and Morris bring out all the charm, emotional heartbreak, and flirtatiousness in this story as the stars struggle to overcome their traumatic pasts and heal through their music. Morris's smooth vocals lend themselves well to the performative swagger of Clay, whose fame is a mask covering teenage alcoholism. Lawrence's voice is sweet and sassy for Annie, and she tops if off with an upbeat twang that exudes bubbly Southern charm. Morris and Lawrence use a range of Southern accents to portray the crew of supporters who help the young stars navigate fame, friendship, and family. J.E.C. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine
