rebecca rose. • Bec Rose was diagnosed with Colorectal cancer almost four years ago. At the time, she was given six months to live. Bec was a creative soul, a stylist, a daughter, a sister, a mum and a person determined to use the time she had left to embrace every moment in life. a chat with ashley simpo • about co-parenting with friends, creating your new story + the importance of community after divorce.

birding with kids • Back in the old days of the late 18th century, birdwatching involved wealthy white dudes competing to have the biggest and best collection of rare bird specimens, feathers, eggs and skins. Half the time, they weren’t even doing the fieldwork themselves. Instead, they paid a friend of a friend who was travelling to one of the ‘colonies’ to bring home something unique that none of his mates would have seen before. Around 100 years later, they realised hunting and collecting birds was an express ticket to extinction, and observing the live birds was a way better option. And so, modern birdwatching was born.

Learn the lingo! • Over the years, birdwatchers have accrued a wacky vernacular that common folk can struggle to understand.
