VISIONS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN • Cruising the Mediterranean, relaxing in warm sunshine and anchoring in a perfect bay every night has been a fantasy for many Kiwis over the past couple of covid-affected years — not to mention more recently, in the depths of a very wet winter. Well, if you can’t go to the Mediterranean, this new trawler-style launch can bring the Med to you.
LOVE IN THE TIME OF THE COVID • Alex Stone with the story of a remarkable re-fit in Auckland

THRILLS IN THE SOUTHERN OCEAN • An edited extract from Mark Sedon’s self-published book What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?
XPRESS YOURSELF • The Fjord 38 xpress offers performance, accommodation and a versatile deck layout in a stylish package. This stylish and sturdy open day-boat can also take you on coastal hops and has the performance to return home, no matter the weather.
THE RESOLUTION IS HERE • Consumer marine electronics continue to evolve and improve. And, it seems, every few months new, improved models, software updates and additional features are announced, the user experience increasingly converging with what’s familiar in automotive and consumer electronics.
CTEK PERFORMANCE • CHARGING AND MAINTAINING YOUR BATTERIES OVER WINTER
Calamari time! • The cooler months may not suit some anglers, but they signal productive and tasty times ahead for squid (egi) fishers!

Crew briefings • Been to the boat ramp recently and heard the shouting and hollering as a flustered, bewildered looking crew leaps ashore with a line, frantically looking for something to tie it to? That would be the result of a poor crew briefing – or a complete lack thereof.
ELECTRIC FLIGHT • Trailer boats don’t come more unconventional than the Candela C7. Boating NZ travelled to beautiful Lake Wanaka to experience the Swedish-built electric-powered foiling monohull.
Bilge pump disaster • Is you bilge pump installation up to moving a large volume of water out of your hull should the need arise?
Sharing the fun • Westhaven-based Ownaship – the country’s biggest ‘boat-share’ player – recently took delivery of its 11th Rayglass 3500 launch. Like the other 10 in the fleet, this one belongs to a syndicate of six owners, a sharing model Ownaship managing director Simon Barker says has multiple attractions.
