Gr 1-3 -Milton introduces readers to wolf-pack behavior including body language, the raising of pups, and hunting tactics; myths and legends surrounding the animals; and the hunting that almost led to their extinction in the U. S. The book is sympathetic to the return of wolves to appropriate natural habitats. Schwinger's realistic watercolor and pencil illustrations complement the text and provide numerous visual clues for emerging readers. A factual and up-to-date look at Wild, Wild Wolves.-Gale W. Sherman, Pocatello Pub . Lib ., ID

Gr. 2-3. Milton packs in plenty of information as she examines the history of wolves, their social order and hunting tactics, and looks at the portrayal of wolves in books, myths, and movies. The author writes in an accessible manner, letting her inherently interesting topic carry the day. The gauzy watercolors, while not always expertly executed, succeed in giving a feel for the wild (and the metamorphosis of the Wolfman is a sure kid-pleaser). A good alternative to easy-to-read fiction. ((Reviewed Apr. 1, 1992))(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 1992, American Library Association.)

Sympathetic to the wolf, this easy reader tells of the lifestyle and social structure of the pack and introduces myths and legends concerning the animals. The pencil-and-watercolor illustrations portray people poorly compared to the animals, giving the book a textbooklike appearance.
