      Zach's skateboarding friends influence him to dye his hair and wear an earring--a look that doesn't go over well at the exclusive private school he's now attending. Torn between his underachieving skateboard crew and his new academically oriented friends, Zach eventually merges both aspects of his life. A surprising lack of sports action exposes this novel's didactic tone, dated dialogue ("Rock on!"), and limited characterizations.
