A heartwarming Honey Creek novel from beloved New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jodi Thomas, featuring loveable characters and tender romance in a small-town Texas setting that has quickly become a reader favorite.
Benjamin Monroe is pretty sure how his life will play out. He'll continue teaching chemistry in his small college, and spend his free time biking through the valley. Eventually, he'll retire to putter around in his garden and greenhouse. His colleague, Virginia Clark, is not one for routines. She's chatty, spontaneous, and bubbly, and before Benjamin realizes what happened, she's talked him into collaborating on a research project—studying the mating habits of college students.
Ketch Kincaid, one of Benjamin's star students, returned to college after serving in the army. He needs something to get his mind off his recent breakup and collecting research data might do it. And there's another distraction on the horizon—a woman who looks like she, too, knows about heartache.Soon enough, their project, "The Chemistry of Mating," is gaining notoriety. Friends, neighbors . . . the whole town has become involved. But no matter what the data determines, one conclusion seems inescapable: love follows its own rules . . .

The residents of Clifton Bend, Tex., discover love when least expected in bestseller Thomas’s emotional third Honey Creek romance (after Picnic in Someday Valley). Clifton College biology professor Virginia “Jenny” Clark asks standoffish colleague Dr. Benjamin Monroe for his assistance on a research paper on sexual attraction. Benjamin agrees—and soon realizes that Jenny is the stranger with whom he enjoyed a weekend-long fling during college, though he doesn’t believe she remembers him. Meanwhile, Benjamin’s research assistant, Ketch Kincaid, a student and former Army Ranger dealing with a difficult breakup, meets and falls for Tuesday Raine, a lonely bartender with a caring heart. And when Houston cop Hank Norton comes to town and accidentally hits librarian Amelia Remington with his motorcycle, he feels compelled to care for her as she recovers. As all three pairs navigate their relationships, a series of bomb threats ups the stakes. Thomas’s memorable, refreshingly candid characters are sure to resonate, especially the strong female protagonists. Series fans will be delighted. Agent: Gail Fortune, the Talbot Fortune Agency

Thomas returns to "Honey Creek" (following Picnic in Someday Valley) with this ensemble contemporary romance infused with action and light mystery. Chemistry professor Benjamin Monroe likes a routine: teaching, helping his father on the farm, living a quiet life. Virginia Clark, the chemistry professor in the office next to his, is more of a free spirit. Virginia talks too much, in Ben's opinion (and reminds him of a girl he met in college years ago), but she convinces him to join her in a research project, "The Chemistry of Mating," that combines their interests; the collaboration turns romantic before they know it. Army veteran/student Ketch Kincaid starts helping with Ben and Virginia's research after splitting from his long-distance fiance; he becomes intrigued by a new woman in town, who has her own ghosts. Finally, librarian Amelia's quiet life is up-ended by a literal run-in with a Harley-riding preacher's son. VERDICT Series fans will be delighted to return to Honey Creek; purchase accordingly.--Melanie C. Duncan, Washington Memorial Lib., Macon, GA
